The Challenge

Consensus deliver much needed support to individuals with learning disabilities, autism, and complex needs, nationally.

Consensus were established in 2005 and have worked for over a decade on supporting individuals with learning disabilities, autism, and complex needs. They are a group that strives for greatness – and since January of 2021 Custard have shared in their vision and growth. Consensus have been one of our closest partners and throughout that partnership we have provided support in all aspects of their technical infrastructure; furthering their ability to provide much-needed support.

Originally, Consensus had an in-house IT department and Custard worked to support that department in any way we could as they separated from their parent Group as part of a carve-out and eventual sale. After six months, Consensus resigned their contract with us to outsource their IT entirely to Custard. Following this change, Consensus and Custard worked together to rapidly expand and transition systems to greatly improve their security, efficiency and infrastructure.

The Solution

As a national business with over 600 supported individuals in over 90 separate Services across the UK, Consensus requires consistent and high-quality support in all facets of their business.

We provide the usual day-to-day IT support, from fixing program errors to resolving admin issues for all users; however, that is just a small part of the services we provide to assist in the growth and maintenance of the national business. Custard manage all procurement, data centres, hosted (AWS) and local servers, 365 licensing and cybersecurity.

Custard also ensures that we always have additional machines in stock, so that in the event of an emergency failure we can resupply Consensus with a brand-new machine within 24 hours, minimising downtime.

Additionally, we support Consensus through the reconciliation of all their invoices from Custard and even some from other companies, again ensuring that minimal time is spent on admin, allowing them to focus on what is important to them.

The Results

By fostering a strong partnership with Consensus, Custard are able to meet all of their needs as and when they pop up, no matter where they are in the country.

Custard have since continued to support, manage and pro-actively monitor their IT infrastructure, ensuring that Consensus can focus on what matters most - rather than IT frustrations. Consensus have been able to rapidly expand their support with minimal friction, as Custard work to help transition and improve their IT infrastructure wherever it is needed

Since January 2021 Custard have effectively become the Consensus Group’s “IT Department” managing everything from helpdesk/break/fix to procurement and relevant project work. The support model adopted fits well to our business model and Custard have been a strong supplier and partner to us on our growth journey.


Just wanted to share that the relocation has gone very smoothly – a big thank you to both Ellie and Alastair for getting us exited from 654 on Friday and up and running by 11:30am today, Monday. All went to plan and, where it didn’t, they had a solution.

They were both excellent and a credit to Custard.
