One of the world’s largest manufacturers of inhaler test equipment, Copley Scientific required a robust, reliable and fast IT infrastructure. After supporting the company for 3 months, Custard gained a full understanding of the company’s business IT needs.
To accommodate additional users, the company had expanded their desktops with multiple small switches in various rooms. The switchgear they fitted was not centrally managed, and their bonded ADSL internet connectivity solution had proved unreliable.
Off-site back ups run to portable USB drives which were not completing overnight were causing slow connectivity in the day.
The network was plagued by speed issues and there was no spare capacity within the server infrastructure.
We proposed to virtualise the 3 servers in a ‘Hyper V’ replica environment across two physical servers. We used two dual 6-core HP DL380 servers for the server back-bone power, with Hyper V replica across the servers.
We installed the additional cabling required, removed the multiple desktop switches, and upgraded a Cisco managed switch to improve the overall network speed.
We are also implementing a 10 mb leased line to guarantee reliable internet access and communications.
Custard completed the internal infrastructure and hardware upgrades, from start to finish, on budget and within 30 days of the order being placed. And, in a recent meeting, the company’s Operations Manager commented:
It was a breath of fresh air for an IT company to make recommendations and then implement them with the minimum fuss and downtime, so much so that the transition was seamless and our staff did not even notice when the new equipment and systems were installed. – Paul Goddard.
